Well… that’s a can of soup wasted and splattered across the kitchen floor. One of the last ‘good’ cans, too. He had warned Julia that the bowl was too hot to touch. Ryon had been reaching for his when he froze in place, already getting riled up to tattle (even when the spill was a bit obvious.)

But Seifer doesn’t care about the wasted food, he’s kneeling down by the counter to reach for Julia’s hands, making sure they weren’t burned. “It was an accident,” An accident that would leave Julia unscathed, thankfully. “My fault. I shouldn’t have left the bowl in the microwave that long. See?” He showed her the tips of his fingers, how the heat had scalded his skin, made it red, shiny. 

Even adults made mistakes.

Rubbing Julia’s hands, Seifer’s remembering why they never use the ceramic bowls for the children. “Grandma Sarah uses the plastic bowls, doesn’t she? How about you and Ryon grab a few wet washrags and help me clean this up, then I’ll make us something else.”
